Some publishers might be wondering what we at NBN Fusion do. Good question. In essence, we bring the knowledge, experience, and talent that we use to publish more than 1200 titles per year for Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group to help NBN publishers solve their ebook and print challenges.
For ebooks we can store, manage, and distribute all of the ebook file types currently available in the market place, including .epub, .mobi, KF8, fixed-layout epub, iBook multi-touch, and webPDF. But more than just storing and distributing files, we can help you secure file conversions at very competitive rates with our preferred conversion vendors. We use the volume from the publishing company to help drive down the costs. As a result, you pay what we pay.
When you need files converted, contact your NBN Fusion ebook representative and she will work with you to discuss your source material, what level of conversion you want, and what type of ebook product you need delivered. For complex conversions, we can provide samples so that you’ll know what you’re getting. And every file we convert for you belongs to you. You’ll receive a copy of each file we have made for you.
The cost and the time needed for conversion depends on many factors: the complexity of the source text, the type of source material submitted, the complexity of the output, and types of files you want delivered. If you’d like an estimate for the cost of conversion, speak to your Fusion ebook representative. It generally takes 2-3 weeks to convert a title, but can be longer for particularly complicated layouts or file functionality.
Once we have the files we need (which at minimum are an epub file, a webPDF, and a .jpg of your front cover), we pull metadata from our databases to fill in as much of your ebook data as we can. We ask that you review this data to fix any errors, make any changes, and fill in anything missing. Then we ingest your ebook files and metadata into our digital asset management system. After that the appropriate files and metadata are distributed to almost 100 ebook retail and library sites. These sites include the large retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Apple; large library sites like NetLibrary, MyiLibrary, and Ebrary; and smaller sites such as Fictionwise, Kalahari.net and eCampus.com. A complete list of all our vendor partners is included on a tab at the top of the blog.
Once files are distributed, we handle all the sales reporting from the various sites and consolidate them into your on-line sales reports. We process all of the sales as they are reported to us and remit them to you as part of your publisher’s compensation.
